Mad About You
by Mhairi McFarlane
Rating: 3.4 stars
There's lots to like in this book, and I'm a big fan of MM's writing. I also love the cities she sets her novels in; Leeds is a great setting for this.
She writes about toxic relationships really well, but that's where the realism ends, as what follows is probably wish-fulfilment for many. Who wouldn't want to (mild spoiler alert!) so comprehensively take down a terrible ex in this way and with such style. Getting the guy seemed to happen so effortlessly alongside the drama. But that's what these books are essentially for; fairytale narratives set in something resembling real life.
Anyway. I finished it very quickly as it was compelling and entertaining. Just raised an eyebrow at some of the things that were too good to be true.
