minsies 's review for:
The Prague Cemetery
by Umberto Eco
You definitely have to like Eco to like this, and even then there are points where you'll want him to stop gallivanting around and just get to the point already.
Which he does, eventually. I'm not convinced that the payoff for the Simonini and Abbe Piccola situation is worth it, exactly (I'm not sure I really cared either way at that point), but I did enjoy reading the book overall.
Of course there will be people complaining about the subject matter, etc., but it's not like Eco paints Simonini in any kind of positive light. If you're looking to be offended (whatever your background), you'll easily find something about which to be offended in here. If you're just happy to go along with a very Eco-y, peculiar story, you won't be disappointed.
