I really enjoyed the slow burn romance in this book.
The tension and banter with these two is so good… and although it’s a little repetitive, that didn’t really annoy me. I love Casteele, at this point in the story I just think he’s a prime book boyfriend. He has the same energy as Jacks from Once Upon a Broken heart, and I’m here for it. I just love a morally grey but gallant lover boy.
The character development in this book was so rich too!! I adore Poppy at this point. I’ve heard a lot of people complain about that this author is a tell and not show kind of writer because there is so much inner monologue happening, but I have enjoyed being in Poppy’s head. It’s worked for me.
The ending was really confusing, I think on purpose. I didn’t love the way it ended, I hope the vibe of the story doesn’t totally change, this has been one I’ve really looked forward to picking up and I will be sad if I don’t feel that way anymore.
I love the world building in this one, I’ve found myself very interested in their world and in their history. It’s kind of a mind game, wondering who is actually “good” and who is actually “bad.” It seems like there is quite a bit of nuance there.
This one was a bear at 637 pages, near the end I was like okay let’s wrap it up- but for most of the book I was happy to enjoy the ride! I’m interested to see where this series goes!
