Carry On by Rainbow Rowell
5.0

I absolutely loved this book. I am not sure how I learned about it. Too many people in my life recommend books that intrigue me, and that is why I have 900 books on my TBR list!! Now I have two more because after reading this one, I must read the other Simon Snow books, of course!

I listened to this as an audio book. I did know it was tagged as "LGBT" here on Goodreads, but nothing seemed queer about it for quite a while. Then, I remember it was 4 hours into the book that the topic came up, and a broad smile spread across my face and I almost laughed out loud with delight. Fortunately, I was walking through the woods when that happened or somebody would have reported some crazy lady walking in the woods! I was surprised and delighted at the reveal. Another reveal happened at around 9 hours in, and I smiled again because I really like these characters. Right now, I feel at loose ends because I am not in their company, and I don't want to rush into book 2 just now. I want this one to settle in.

I enjoy the attitude toward magic and the way spells are named or labelled or whatever. I like the world-building that Rainbow Rowell has created. I must find a way to "carry on" for a bit without this world, but I will definitely return in the new year. My horrid reading dry spell this year has slowed down my Reading Challenge progress, and I really want to complete that successfully. That means that longer reads are getting pushed back in the queue for a little while. I do have some days off spread throughout December so maybe I can "carry on" sooner, rather than later. :)
