I wanted to like this book but all the lame romance and shoddy writing really made me dislike it. It was predictable, the heroine was a moron, and the complete lack of personality of the characters was truly dull. It’s fine for a light read, but I really wanted more than Maas was (un)able to cram into 16+ hours of audiobook. I’m sure the remaining books are equally reliant on sex and contrived problems that rely on that obvious tale as old as time to make it seem interesting. The riddle was infuriating too. As soon as Amarantha spoke it, I knew the answer but we spent 5 hours of audio going through ridiculous trials and obvious court politics to get to the point. I think I’m getting too old for fantasy. Spoiler alert: it has a basic happy ending.
