🪶This wildness inside us gives us our name. It was men who marked us so, in the time when language was but a shoot curling from the earth.

A story spanning centuries through the perspective of three different women. Altha (1619) on trial for witchcraft, Violet (1942) living in Orton hall with her brother and brute of a Father, and Kate (2019) escaping the clutches of a abusive relationship. All three women discover the power that runs through thier veins while overcoming hardships at the hands of the patriarchy.

I found this book in a book shop in ullapool while on holiday with the in laws. I've seen raving reviews which landed it on my TBR so I was excited to see if it lived up to the hype.
My God did this book do that! I was hooked from the first page.
The vivid descriptions enchanted me on every page, I felt as if I was there with these women. Feeling thier rage, heart break , grief and joy.
Such a powerful story of power in the connection between women. Emilia has tackled some really difficult subjects in a way that is both respectful but gives justices to how heavy they are.
Truly gripping.
