Animalia by Graeme Base

5.0

Animalia is an alphabet book of legend, admired by artists everywhere.

Besides the fact that Graeme Base is an excellent illustrator, this book goes beyond simple rhymes.

He picks sets of rhymes with words that are complex (or “big”) enough to pose a challenge to younger readers, yet still hold the interest of older kids who have long since outgrown alphabet books.

The illustrations are detailed like there’s no tomorrow, and within them you’ll find objects and creatures that correspond to that particular letter of the alphabet, even if that word isn’t spelled out in the rhyme.

Animalia is the Where’s Waldo? of alphabet books, with the kind of pictures you can enjoy over and over and make new discoveries every time, and always leave without being entirely sure if you’ve found it all yet.

As far as alphabet books go, this is a must!! And if you’re an adult, check it out if just for the detailed illustrations, it’s way worth it!
