Flash Gold by Lindsay Buroker

3.0

This was a short, entertaining introduction into the Flash Gold chronicles. It was also the first of Lindsay's steampunk stories that I've read, having come mostly from her science fiction titles, and a few of the fantasy ones as well.

Like all her books, the action and the characterization is great. The story moves along at a brisk pace and you find yourself wrapped up in the characters' predicament right away. The fact that this is a novella-length piece also serves as a great intro because it gives the reader a bite-sized look at what can be expected in the series.

For me personally, I'm not sure I'm invested enough to keep reading in the series as steampunk isn't anywhere near my first choice of genre, but I did enjoy the opportunity to try something new and Lindsay has proved, once again, that she's a very talented writer in whatever genre she attempts.
