I think this is the best volume of the series yet, primarily because it finally deals with comic books. While comics can be great literature (Watchmen, The Sandman), The Unwritten isn't on that level, and so it never really felt comfortable engaging with the likes of Dickens and Melville. But in this volume it actually has some insightful things to say about comic books, and in particular the place of superhero comics in 20th century culture.
