The Likeness by Tana French
5.0

This is the third book in this series that I have read. Of the three (book 5, book 1, and book 2), so far Cassie Maddox is my favorite character. (I still like book 5 the best, but Antoinette isn't as likeable..)

I will repeat what I said in my review of "In the Woods" these books are more about the psychology of the detective investigating the murders on the murder squad than the murder itself.. not that the journey to solving the murder isn't fun, but then again, perhaps what the book is trying to say is that the "solving" of the murder really isn't the challenging part. It is gathering the evidence necessary to convict the murderer. And the gathering of the evidence, is all about the detective.

The other thing that these books have in common, is that the narrator of the stories so far, are all telling the story of the case that takes their lives over. The case that both makes and breaks their careers..

Cassie Maddox is seriously competent and excellent at what she does. Sometimes a bit to excellent at it. So excellent that she gets lost in the investigation.

Highly recommended if you are a person who gets attached to characters. Not so much if you want alot of action and adventure. There is a bit of it here, but these stories take place in Ireland. A place that is seemingly slow and provincial. But the fun part lies in all the secrets that these provincial people keep, not what they do when they get blazing drunk, which they do on a regular basis.
