The Onion Girl by Charles de Lint
4.5
It's finally Jilly's book!!! Jilly is a side character in every(or almost every) other book in this series so far, she's the energetic, upbeat, helpful, understanding girl with a really triggering past and intimacy issues as a result. In this story she's struck by a car and hospitalized for a number of injuries including paralysis in an arm, a leg and partial face, as a painter this is devastating for her. The only silver lining is that she is finally able to cross into the dreamlands in her sleep where she can use her body like she always did. Unfortunely in order to truly heal she is going to have to face her traumatic past as well and deal with her feelings of abandoning her sister in that hell hole of a home when she ran away from all the abuse.
This is a traumatic childhood abuse story with some details so check trigger warnings before diving in, but I loved finally getting to know more about Jilly.
