brookhorse 's review for:
Jagannath
by Karin Tidbeck
This was an interesting little read. There were all sorts of unique, intriguing ideas here, but unfortunately I felt like they mostly just didn't come to fruition. Most of the stories seemed to just end, at odd and awkward places that didn't really make sense for the arc of the story. For a lot of them, I was left wondering, "What was the point?" They seemed more like snapshots into ideas instead of fully-fleshed stories.
Still, I did enjoy getting to see all the bizarre concepts Karin Tidbeck came up with. I think I enjoyed Reindeer Mountain the most; that one felt complete, and really encapsulated the sense of missing something, of being left behind. The others... didn't really leave a strong impression on me, unfortunately
