Seth Dickinson you're fucking insane.

So now I've had time to digest this book (and the series? TBH it's making me want to reread the entire series because I just know I missed a lot on my first read and reading it again with what I know now is going to change how I read it. BUT I digress).

I freaking love Baru Cormorant. She changes so much during the entire trilogy without ever changing the very core of her motive--which is to destroy the imperialist and fascist machine that is Falcrest. She goes through a lot, most of it due to her own actions and the consequences of it, and the way she changes especially in this book is literally... heartwarming? It's like she started her redemption arc (if you could call it that) because of the people around her. By this point she truly learned the lesson that other people exist who have their own needs and desires and she isn't alone and aaaghhh. It's so precious to me that people who used to want to kill Baru also change their perspective of her when they truly see what she's fighting for and that they're all pawns with hostages, all without destroying the core principles of what makes them their own characters (basically, they become "friends" with Baru without being OOC, is what i mean).

I really enjoyed this journey with Baru, seeing her change and learning to love people without living in fear. I think she still has a lot to learn and I'm really excited to see where she's going in the final book.
