The Rules of Magic by Alice Hoffman

4.0

In this prequel we get to know the aunts, Franny and Jet, a little better. We also find out that they have a little brother, Vincent, which was an interesting piece of information to find out, seeing as in the movie Practical Magic he was missing.

Because of the curse placed on the Owens family Franny, the oldest, ran away from love. But no matter how hard she tried, oh trust me she tried, she just COULDN'T stay away from her childhood sweetheart, Haylin. Whom she eventually, after numerous heartbreaking events, FINALLY put the poor guy out of his misery and gave their relationship a shot. They had many happy years together until he died of cancer, causing Franny to wonder if she'd ever love again.

Jet on the other hand, although catious of the curse, went all in and had a relationship with a sweet young man named Levi. One evening, on her birthday, there was an accident not only killing her parents but the love of her life as well. She was so broken by the loss she never wished to love again. Until Rafael came along and helped her put the pieces back together. Even a long standing family feud came to pass and was no more.

Vincent, probably my favourite of all, was a wildcard. Doing whatever he liked, drinking and fornicating. Until one evening he too met the love of his life. William, whom he was running away from for so long. Until he realized that he deserved love and happiness too.

I really enjoyed this one. Onto the next witchy adventure.
