The Spare by Ava Rani
4.0
My first read by this author and it was a quick read for me. It was enjoyable!
Sloan, an Indian American and English daughter of an heir of a pharmaceutical company, try to live her life the way she wants to. With her close group of friends and her job she has everything she needs. Or so she thinks.
“I was the spare, after all. The heir had expectations. I had charity galas.”
Marcus who escaped and ran after after a tragedy, now runs his own massive company. Marcus returns home and has mixed feelings and realized the hurt he caused.
“I never cared. He was my baby brother; it was my job. I wanted him to have everything he needed to be happy, whatever happiness meant for him. For a time, I thought that meant Sloan. Thankfully, it didn’t. She was my happiness.”
This was definitely a slow burn. Sloan and Marcus connection and chemistry was strong. The dynamics of the friendships were realistic. Along with the little tiffs between Sloan and her brother Henry.
“I’ll chase you. Around the fucking world if you want. I’ll play by whatever rules you set. For as long as it takes. When I catch you, and I will catch you, I’m never letting you go."
I did receive an ARC for my honest review.
