The Island of Missing Trees by Elif Shafak
5.0
I loved so many things about this novel, beginning with its magical point of view, and as people and places and cultures came alive. I was fascinated by the dialogue between twin timelines, gripped by this seldom told tragic history and its impact down generations. Elif Shafak's writing is heart-stoppingly gorgeous.
The telling bursts with details of near lost ways of life, ecosystems, folklore, idiom. While, for me, the wealth was sometimes overwhelming, this book is a thing of beauty.
