The Year We Fell Down
by Sarina Bowen
Ok so this book literally made me so happy. I read it in about 3 hours (yet was still up until at least 2 a.m. because I just had to finish it). It was entirely too easy to devour in one sitting. Dealing with contemporary issues that affect a good number of people in society in both a humorous and serious way, [b: The Year We Fell Down|20896313|The Year We Fell Down (The Ivy Years, #1)|Sarina Bowen|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1393588332s/20896313.jpg|40239717] tells the story of a girl who became paralyzed and her foray into the crazy world of college/university.
Corey made this book for me. She is the epitome of what I would hope I would be if I ever became physically disabled. She is equal parts afraid of the impact her disability will have on her life and humorous in her approach to it.
Corey doesn't take shit from anybody.
Nor does she give up when the odds are against her. She is just a machine. She thinks a guy isn't into her? Well fuck that guy, she's going to go and join a sweet sports team and do what she needs to do to be happy, even though she can't walk unassisted. Her attitude is a reminder of what you can do and accomplish in the face of adversity.
I think books like this are really important. Corey shows that yes, it is definitely more than ok to show weakness when something like this has happened to you, but that it's really your attitude that will help you overcome your fears and insecurities. An all-round beautiful and important read.
IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THIS YET, YOU SHOULD GO AND BUY IT NOW.

Was there a guy out there for me, who would refer to his wheelchair-bound girlfriend as a hottie? I really didn't think there was.
But removing my jeans requires me to roll from one hip to the other, like a flopping fish. It's very sexy. Not.

I pushed myself up on an elbow. "What? Just because I don't want you groping me makes me a chicken? That's bullshit, Hartley. Just because nobody else ever said no to you doesn't make it impossible."
