The Situation Room: The Inside Story of Presidents in Crisis by George Stephanopoulos

informative reflective slow-paced

3.75

The Situation Room was good in many respects. I learned a lot of quality history about how Presidents have used this room since its creation under Kennedy. Included in that history was how each President and their key staff responded in critical moments including telltale leadership characteristics. Unsurprisingly, Trump did not lead in any way similar to all the others and the staff needed to manage him more than the crisis itself. The book’s weakest chapter dealt with the Clinton Administration when the author was either there or very close to the individuals there. It’s as though George did not want to tell as much of the story of that time as of the times he was not as close to the participants. 3.75 stars.
