Legend by Marie Lu

5.0

SPOILERS AHEAD!
i have seen this book everywhere on booktok. legend, legend, legend. but i didn't have any clue what it was about, or the characters or nothing. while i was reading the description, it struck me that i definitely reminded me of the hunger games, in a sense. obviously it's not written after the hunger games but certain themes: relating to the government, finding out your whole sense and world was wrong (as june was discovering) and that romance really got me feeling like it was going to be very similar to the hunger games series. except i was wrong.
this book is better than the hunger games.
i finished this book (almost in one seating.) i started it at eleven at night, and couldn't put it down until close to 1, leaving only fiftyish pages left. i woke up at ten the next morning and spent about a hour finishing it off. this book compelled me from the start to finish and i devoured it whole.
to focus on the main characters, june and day (such odd names, btw)...i loved them. with my whole heart. seems odd, because of how different their character arcs and worlds were, but i loved them equally. june is my perfect heroine: a prodigy from birth, fiercely loyal to nobody but herself (and her brother...rip metias...) but also this boy who had supposedly killed him. i had a special place in my heart for day, his loyalty to his family (eden and john!) and especially his soft spot for june.
i will tell you: june and day don't have a super spicy enemies to lovers knife to a throat (although, there could be scenes like that in the next three books, i am excited to see!) their relationship consists of them being literally so SOFT. i was not expecting that side of day but i love him so much. i was hooked on this whole plot, the story was just woven together so perfectly and i am so excited to see where this series goes. cannot recommend this enough.
