This is an excellent beginners book on Islamic history. It gives an overview of all and helps you to move on to other in-depth islamic history books. I've had this book (the newer edition) on my shelf for a while and I've now read it as part of a book club. If you love history and want to learn more about your Islamic history, then begin with this book. Some would argue that the book could go in-depth on some points but I do feel that it's done justice and for a beginner to learn about Islamic history this book is excellent.
