Well that was disappointing.

The book was kinda just one note throughout the entire thing. It kind of shot itself in the foot by staring off having the tension and feelings so high because it meant it didn’t have far to go.

It also took far too long for the relationship between Charlie and William relationship to develop, they kept having the same conversation over and over and over again. It took over 60% of the book for them to finally kiss but it had taken so long that I just didn’t care. Then they finally had sex over 70% when the book is nearing its end. Tbf the sex scene was good but it took far too long to happen.

I did like the characters especially Charlie, she was sweet, vulnerable, and open with her emotions. I also liked the side characters, in a lot of rom come the side characters often just get reduced to someone who’s a kind of ‘yes man’ for the mc and ships them with the love interest. But overall the characters just didn’t really feel very developed. Charlie’s relationship with her family was also very interesting but again it wasn’t really expanded on or given any conclusion at the end.

I also found this book incredibly cringey. I don’t mind clichés but they need to be written well. Charlie and William just kept just bumping into each other like all the time. Like almost every time they met it was a ‘fancy bumping into you here’. A lot if their dialogue I found very cringey and they just kept repeating it. The conversations they had didn’t develop much.

About halfway through the book I was so bored of reading the same conversation over and over again, I started shipping Charlie with a side character hoping for some drama. Most of the book was just one note, if that even makes sense.

The most frustrating part is that there was no flash forward at the end to show how Charlie and William were doing in a years time or something. This left me with a lot of unanswered questions. I wanted to know how Charlie was finding her new job, did Charlie find a job, were they still living in California, how’s pepp, does Charlie still talk to her family, what’s Charlie and William’s relationship like now? It made the ending feel very unsatisfactory.

Overall just disappointed. This book had the potential to be very cute and fun but it wasn’t developed enough or paced well.
