The One Real Thing by Samantha Young

2.0

I actually didn't finish this one 'cause I didnt quite connect with the characters.. the female lead didnt leave an impression on me and so did her love interest.. might give it another go and re-visit it some time soon though.. the writing wasnt terrible, I believe.. (i cant remember much). I like the idea of her finding this new place to find "something" along the process of returning these love letters she found.. I guess I was hoping that the "something" (or someone really) wasnt so.. in-your-face-kinda-type of style. Like, right off the bat, the readers know right away that this is her and that this is him and that they're it. It feels too... fate-y(...?)

Since we were given both Jess' and Cooper's perspective, I kinda felt that.. we knew too much I guess..? I suppose that doesnt really make any sense but what I was hoping for was some kind of mystery, to stay in one perspective, be it hers or his. I wanted to go through a journey with Jessica, as she searched for the one thing she wanted and kind of watch her grow and learn and whatnot, without really knowing anyone else's thought but hers. Maybe the author DID want the readers to go through a journey with both her characters and I just stopped way to early for that. But, in my opinion, the switching made me feel like I was.. too much too often in their heads, I felt.. (ironically) disconnected..

Anyways, maybe its just me and I dont know what I'm talking about..
