Murder on a School Night by Kate Weston
4.0
The title of this one drew me in and the perspective from two sixth formers was a fresh narrative to the books I usually read. There’s a lot more American centred teenage murder dramas (and I love those) than British ones so this one was a definite pick up.
I also love that books like these with an insight into the teenage brain makes me feel SO old. Granted it’s been a while since I was at College but wow, reality check, my youth was so much different to these gals. I mean, broadly and proudly throwing vulvas into conversation and the proud feminism is something my youth I suppose, was greatly lacking in!
Our two MC’s, Kerry and Annie, want in on the popular scene (at least Annie does) and Kerry will always back her girl. An opportunity presents itself when Heather starts receiving threats and they are perfectly placed to help her get to the bottom of it. As a budding investigative journalist, it’s the ideal opening to get noticed by the populars. But then the plot develops with a darker twist of fate…
It was a compelling story and the audiobook was super entertaining. Some people feel born to narrate a story and this narrator did! They added the perfect voice to the characters and captured their youth expertly.
