The Last Kingdom
by Bernard Cornwell
After enjoying Cornwell's King Arthur trilogy, I decided to wade into this series. Book one was good; basically what I had come to expect from Cornwell. He's a good writer who tells a tale in simple fashion but with a vividness that makes you feel the location and time. I'm not an expert on historical fiction but of the ones I've read, he's up there. This is similar to the Arthur trilogy and for the most part, I didn't mind. Don't know if it's enough to compel me to read the entire lengthy series but I'll definitely check out volume 2 and see where things go from there.
