The Secret Book of Flora Lea by Patti Callahan Henry

4.0

The story and narrator ( I listened to the audio book) are both transporting and I felt so much of the whimsy that the girls had with their storytelling. It balanced this well with the fear and grief from the war and loss they experience.

I didn't know what exactly what the twist would be, but it felt too set up to be the American author, but it felt like it being the journalist came out of nowhere for me but it was still a nice twist.

The ending dragged so much though! Like I got bored in the last hour or so because Hazel is still being weird. (Like, girl, do you actually love Barnaby!?) And Dot just repeating herself over and over again while also accepting and believing the truth got to be a lot.
