The Final Hunt by Audrey J. Cole

5.0

You know those books you read when you have seasonal depression in the middle of winter and you enjoy being temporarily transported to a tropical climate to dream of summer and sunshine? This book is like that, but the complete opposite. Read this if you like thrillers and want to be transported to the harsh, unforgiving Alaskan wild in the middle of winter, where moose, rabid wolves, and another dangerous apex predator lurks.

Cameron is an affluent dentist in the Seattle area who believes marriage number two is the charm. But after a hunting accident involving her criminal defense attorney husband, John, and his business partner goes wrong, she is thrust into a position where she finds out her second husband wasn’t really who she and everyone thought he was and Cameron will have to face her own concealed truths about her first marriage in order to save herself from going down with him. This story is set in both Washington and Alaska and told from Cameron and Detective Mulholland’s contemporaneous perspectives.

Wowwwe! This book gets into the plot FAST and I liked it! I am about to move from Missouri to Washington state here in a few weeks, so I loved all of the Washington state references and how beautifully it was portrayed. What great timing! I’ve never been to Alaska and I’m not the most outdoorsy person, but the detail in this book makes me want to pack up and go on a great backpacking wilderness adventure. The overarching plot was pretty foreseeable to me but that in no way subtracted from the entertainment value and the plot fillers along the way. I flew through this thriller so quickly. You know stories are great when you can’t wait to keep reading, and you’re still thinking about it after it’s over!

At the end of the e-galley, I saw there is an ALTERNATE ENDING if you sign up for the author’s mailing list and I CAN’T WAIT TO GET MY HANDS ON THAT IMMEDIATELY!

This author is new to me. I definitely enjoyed her style of writing and creativity so I am excited to check out some of her other works too!

Thank you to NetGalley, BooksGoSocial, and the author for an advance reader’s galley in exchange for my honest review!
