What a cool book—such an interesting perspective on the Civil War, women in the 19th century, and the good ol’ US of A. I admire the spirit, pluck, courage, and commitment that all of these women exuded, and I find myself inspired by each woman’s refusal to live any way other than the way that was most authentic to them. (Obviously, though, I’m uninterested in and opposed to encouraging or supporting the beliefs behind the actions of the two Confederate women.) Going forward, give me all the nonfiction about all the sassy, strong, unyielding women who have come before me. I will read it all.
