Supernatural Academy: Year One by Jaymin Eve

3.0

The first half of the book was good. It moved slow but I didn’t mind because we were being introduced to this new world. But the second half is what ruined it for me.

For one, Maddi was entirely too obsessed with Asher and they didn’t have enough scenes together for it to seem realistic. If you’re gonna have two characters all over each other, at least build up their relationship first.

The second half moved too fast. There were a couple of one or two month time jumps so it was impossible to see how Maddi was working on developing her powers or building her relationships with the guys. Instead we’re just told that she can control herself and the guys are her rocks. The author went from showing to telling and it almost seems like there was a rush to be done with the book.

The plot is pretty week, there’s no goals or endgame until the last few chapters. And there’s entirely too much focus on parties and dances and the outfits the girls are wearing. We know they’re hot. We don’t need to read about it in every chapter when there are better things to discuss.

Those aren’t huge issues but it just makes it harder to connect with the book and characters. But at least it wasn’t reverse harem. And for that, I am definitely going to continue reading the series.
