The Antidote: Happiness for People Who Can't Stand Positive Thinking
by Oliver Burkeman
I really liked this little book! So glad I stumbled upon it in the library. I think I will need to re-read it to remember the good parts and get more out of it.
It's easy to read, short, witty, funny, and relatable - I was cringing with him at some of the anecdotes (announcing the subway stops) and acknowledges its some of its own shortcomings/contradictions.
It made me feel better about not being totally goal-oriented and more 'go with the flow'.
He talks about how confronting your mortality makes you appreciate life more (imagine you are 80 and about what you wish you would have spent more time on), how embracing failure is a good idea, and challenges the positive thinking/happiness rhetoric that is so prevalent in society today.
