Like the other books in the series, Hidden has plenty of urban fantasy action, from undercover social scenes to all out magical battles. But in this book, the serious emotional scars of both Alex and his friend Anne are much more in focus. The logical thing to do would be get help, but part of the problem with mental issues is that they make it hard to do the logical thing, so both end up putting themselves and others in greater danger. A good story, but I do find myself hoping that Jacka is going to resolve some of these mind games sooner rather than later, as watching these characters repeatedly make poor decisions is getting a bit old.
