This book was actually amazing! I was so surprised considering I read The Martian by Andy Weir and thought that book was fine, but Project Hail Mary was ten times better for me. It is relatively long compared to the other books I have been reading, but the pacing is great and it never felt too long. The scientific parts seem well-researched, and even though they were in-depth bits of new information, it never once felt too confusing or boring. It was like being in the most fun science class without having to do any work, which was actually perfect for the story, funnily enough. The plot itself is fascinating and well-organized, but the characters shine the most. The characters are interesting, and described so well that even in short descriptions of their personality, you get a good grasp of who they are and how real they feel. I think Weir's charming writing style also helps build the characters a lot because of the way they talk and interact, allowing none of the characters to feel too distant, unless they are meant to be portrayed that way. The main friendship in this story was also extremely heartwarming, and even emotional in a way I was not at all expecting, but it was a wonderful surprise.
Overall, this book is a wonderful work of science, space exploration, and investigation but with a wonderful blend of humor and friendship. Such a fun experience that was so interesting throughout.
