I’m rereading this book for two reasons. First, because I read this book almost a year ago and I hadn’t read a lot of adult graphic novels. So I wasn’t very use to them and struggled to keep up with this book. Now I’ve read East of West, Saga, Paper Girls and Orange (which is a manga but it still helped). So I’ll understand the story better if I reread it. Second, Vol. 2 is coming out in November and I need to be prepared.
The second read through was actually more enjoyable than the first. Probably because I’m use to reading graphic novels. There were a few problems but I think it’s worth bumping it up to a five star.

First, let’s talk about the art. I still really don’t like the grainy outlines. I know, it’s there because haha sand. But it’s still not my style especially on older characters that need wrinkles like Kenton’s dad and far away shots where everything just blends together. However, the colors help. The first part you have a group of people in white clothes surrounded by white sand but they still pop.
“The Sand Lord” okay, Sanderson you need better names for your gods. You’ve got the Lord Ruler, the God King, the Sand Lord, the Stormfather.
Hey, y’know what I just realized? Mastrell. Mastrell. Dammit.
Autonomy has been mentioned.
Now, I finally know who Baon is, hello Blunt!
There felt like a serious lack of emotion when Kenton discovered the Diem was slaughtered. I wish there had been time dedicated to him just grieving over his people.
I wish they did a better job of distinguishing between Cydner and Jon. There wasn’t any real personality trait that made me remember who was who. I had to write down “Black suit, bald, linguist – Cynder; all white, anthropologist, John Acron”.
Wait, so Laoten is friends with Nilto, the guy the Trackt woman is after.
I forgot that Aarik and Kenton are friends.
I don’t know if Drile’s the bad guy.
