To Kill a Kingdom
by Alexandra Christo
**I was sent an e-arc of this for review. All opinions are my own.***
This starts as a little mermaid retelling but with twisted sirens instead and it's fantastic. This is more than a simple little mermaid story line as it takes on something much darker and the story evolves so much from beginning to end. *Que cheering pirates*
Characters: I really liked the dual POV HOWEVER this is the only reason why I'm not giving it a 5/5. When switching between characters, the voice isn't as distinct as I would have liked and it pulled me from the story a bit because I had to refocus on who was talking.
World Building: LOVE IT. The author made everything come alive and I could picture everything perfectly, I can only recall a few books that refer to scents to help drive the image being drawn and I loved this aspect.
Plot: This is definitely an adventure novel and it reads that way. The little mermaid tale starts off following the same idea but it quickly turns into this quest but I quite liked the authors spin on this.
I would recommend this book if you love pirate/siren/mermaid books but want it to be a bit darker than your average YA mermaid book.
