Dave Ramsey's Complete Guide to Money: The Handbook of Financial Peace University by Dave Ramsey

5.0

It helps if you take the class while reading the book. I was reading the assigned chapter each week, prior to going to class, and then our son took an extra long nap, and I found myself not only reading, but highlighting my way through the rest of the book. Some may poo-poo his ways of doing things, but my husband and I have been at this for a little over a month now, when he drug me begrudgingly to our first class. Within a week, we had baby step one done. In two weeks, we had a credit card paid off - it's amazing what money you'll find when you shift things around, reprioritize a little, and tell yourself no on all the habits that used to get you into trouble. If my husband did his math correctly (and he's an engineer, so...), then we will be debt free in 8 years - 9, if we don't have any medical or other expensive setbacks. And if I can reign in my frivolous shopping habits, which I have gotten better at the last few weeks.

If you can discipline yourself enough to read through his book with an open mind, take a class to help bolster it, and then stick to it, you can do wondrous things with your finances.
