Wow. This is the first time I have ever read this book and it captured my attention from the first page. It is so well written and I love the descriptions. This book made me wish I could read French so I could read the original book. What a sad, heartbreaking tale. Madame Bovary was a horrible person who wasn't content in her life. But if you think about how life was on 1800s for a woman it may drive them to desperate measures. You had to marry, there was no other choice. How different her life could have been if she had been able to have a trade or career!
