The End of Procrastination: How to Stop Postponing and Live a Fulfilled Life by Adela Schicker, Petr Ludwig

4.0

I think this has been the most instrumental book in my procrastination journey.

The book is:

- actually actionable
- condensed but pithy
- visual and thus easy to actually remember&recall.

Sure, it is a self-help-ish book, yet it does stand out as it is probably as evidence-based as you can get, tested and adjusted with the author's personal experience and the experience of his many students. With books of this topic I try to just take what I can and ignore the rest, but honestly, this read was not facepalmy or clichéd really. (ok, sometimes).

Even though the ideas are shared between these two books (you can't really get more science on the topic of procrastination and the methods to be it so it does repeat), the End of Procrastination is more distilled, visual and most importanly actionable. The gold lies in the small changes, at least for me. I've always read self-help books without really testing the suggested methods.

So my advice is: try them! For example, I've always had a habit tracker. The author here suggested a slightly different one. At first, I thought mine and his are basically the same as they served the same purpose, but eventually I tested his. The result is I do my habits more often now and I am actually looking forward to doing and tracking them. The new habit tracker gives me a better framework to work with that suddenly clicked.

The ever-present visual representations of the author's thoughts and methods in the vein of [b:Steal Like an Artist: 10 Things Nobody Told You About Being Creative|13099738|Steal Like an Artist 10 Things Nobody Told You About Being Creative|Austin Kleon|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1404576602l/13099738._SX50_.jpg|18272194] really did help with undestanding and actually remembering the text and advice. The author explains that we are very visual and that is why he chose this format and route – and it does reallly help. A small thing, but with really impactful results.

For me the actionable part of the book really helped (the habit tracker method and the todo-all method), however, the flow table method and the whole hamster topic are imho a bit clichéd and do not work for me, yet I bet for many people they could do wonders as they, of course, have a point.

Recommended as the ultimate beat-procrastination book.
