More: A Memoir of Open Marriage by Molly Roden Winter

inspiring reflective sad medium-paced

4.5

I was very consistently impressed with the author's ability to paint herself in a negative light, not justifying her actions as a result of inexperience or noting how she now knows better, but just giving a really unvarnished look into how she was thinking and feeling at different times in her life. Even at the very end it felt like she was still figuring things out, even though she'd obviously done a lot of learning along the way. I really enjoyed the way that she interwove explanations of her dating problems and her other personal problems and outlined how solutions in one area could give insight into solutions in others. And it was really inspiring to see her and Stewart go from such an unhealthy relationship in the beginning to slowly working through.everything and getting better and healthier together. I really spent the first third of the book screaming for them to just get divorced and while I'm not totally sure that would have been the wrong move, it feels like they ended up in a much healthier place in the last tenth and maybe the mistakes were important learning experiences.
