Beauty Is a Wound by Eka Kurniawan

4.0

"Rape, incest, murder and beastiality, an Indonesian folk history" is how I would describe this book. It's written much like a gruesome fairy tale, without a lot of descriptions. I truly love the epic scope of this novel with its intersecting story lines and characters plus the magical realism of it. I also learned so much from this book (about colonialism, culture, war history of another country...) I've certainly never read anything like it.
