This is, in my opinion, the best book Suffian Hakim has written so far. The writing is more mature and more precise. There is clear structure which I sometimes missed in his other books.
The story in itself is a simple one about a community living on Changi beach. Each night, they come together to tell stories that would otherwise be forgotten. These stories were my favorite part of the book as I got to know new myths and fantastical stories I hadn't heard before. Another was the multidiversity of the cast. Lots of characters and none were the same.
I did have some difficulty to follow along with some of the events, such as the fight on the beach. It wasn't always credible. Of course, the book is set in an imaginary world, but I still need to feel that the story could happen in real life. So, for me, that fight was difficult to imagine.
Definitely a great read, even if you are not that much into mysticality!
