What Should Be Wild
by Julia Fine
This is kind of similar to Maggie Stiefvater's The Raven Cycle both in atmosphere and general "mythology", but it's very much its own beast.
Odd cursed women, old remote manor, fairytales and enchanted woods, family secrets, spooky vibes. This is basically everything I could possibly want with a nice binding. I was meant to like it and I sure did. And the feminism!! Loooooved the symbolism, this is very much a story about women claiming what should've always have been theirs alone, their own bodies. I was a bit disappointed with the ending though, it felt quite rushed and I would've like a more comprehensive conclusion. Too many questions are left unanswered for my personal liking.
On a side note, hum, "darkly funny"??? Like, are you sure? I can only think of a single scene that would fit and it wasn't even laughing-out-loud sorta funny.
