this was only supposed to take me three weeks to read but we move. this is like pride and prejudice but for grown ups honestly. the marquise de merteuil is an elite elite character and when
she says “very well, then. war!”
literal chills. valmont was fun to read too but he was always inferior to her. enjoyed the unique structure of the book and even though it did drag at times, it was pretty consistently well paced. the end came as quite a shock and i do feel a bit disappointed following
that exhilarating declaration of war
because I’d really expected more scheming and
a proper face-off
but all the same it’s a good read, very cleverly plotted and at times very funny
