Admittedly, the racial parallels were a bit heavy handed at times. And I agree that Elloren is a very self-centred narrator, but she kind of grows on you.
I enjoyed the book, probably because of the recognition of the racial and gender prejudices, which often go unacknowledge in fantasy books.
