American Stonehenge
by Mike Goldstein
This was such a fun read!
This is about Jimmy, a boy who just turns nine, and as promised by his parents, he gets to finally get a dog! What he finds(or who finds him)is an ancient immortal dog called Andrew who is able to telepathically speak to Jimmy. Jimmy's dad is sent on a work trip to visit a place they are calling the American Stonehenge since it looks an awful lot like the Stonehenge in England. While there, Jimmy learns a lot about Andrew and his past life, and how similar the American Stonehenge is to what Andrew had once seen and experienced once many years ago. Strange occurrences are happening while they are there excavating, which leads to a discovery none of them were expecting, even Andrew.
This was such a cute read. I mean who wouldn't want an immortal dog who is very intelligent AND can speak to you telepathically?! I mean that's like a kid's dream come true. I loved seeing how Andrew and Jimmy's relationship developed, and you can definitely tell Jimmy is nine because of all the questions he had! He certainly also experienced A LOT on this trip for a kid that is nine!
I loved the blend of history, with modern day, and even future in this book! The book also took a very unexpected turn, and I was not expecting it! I was expecting something different, so it was a nice surprise to see how the story went after going a different route than what I was expecting.
I don't read middle grade often, and I should since it brings me back to the days when I used to read fun, cute reads like this. Thank you to the author for sending me a free gifted copy to read! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
