The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie
4.25
Classic Christie whodunit which progressively reveals personalities and small details through entertaining dialogue. She slowly peels back layers, plants suspicions and coaxes out theories in the reader until a final set of revelations tie things together, all with the familiar help of Hercule Poirot. The formula and set pieces have become tropes over the succeeding 100 years, but this narrative is constructed with such precision and style that it still feels interesting and occasionally surprising even to a longtime fan of mystery/detective stories.
