The Tea Master and the Detective by Aliette de Bodard

3.0

A impeccably written novella - the setting is brilliantly creative, and the fascinating characters have depth and authenticity.

The plot, meanwhile, fell a bit short for me.  With the focus on the character interactions and their thoughts about their interactions and how they changed as a result of their interactions - well, I felt there wasn’t enough time for a story to actually unfold.  It’s certainly a well done example of this introspective kind of work, but not exactly my thing.
