3.5 stars rounded down. I feel just a little bad rating what is apparently a classic book with a cultish following only 3 stars. Two young couples - Larry and Sally & Sid and Charity - meet as young professors and their wives during the Great Depression. Their lives become inextricably intertwined in profound and quiet ways. The writing was masterful but the story slow and plodding.
