Candlelight by Stacy McWilliams

3.0

Candlelight by Stacy McWilliams is a Paranormal tale and the first book I have read from this author. It was different than anything I have read in a long time, and was a refreshing change from the norm, for me. This book is a prequel to the Escaping Demons Saga followed by Luminosity-Book 1, then Ignition-Book 2.

Nathan is a good Demon, who does not embrace his Demonism to it’s fullest. According to his parents, he is not Demon enough. So they do despicable things to him to try to Demon him up.

“Go back to the dance and remember that you broke your shoe. You rushed home and changed into a different pair.”

Nathan’s parents were hideously vile creatures who seemed to feed off his agony. He just could never seem to do right, in their eyes. He tries to be more Demon and take more responsibility, as was the expectation of him, because of what he was to become. His dreams are his saving grace. Without them, he would be lost. His brother and sister do not seem to attract the same attention that he does from his parents, but that does not make him bitter. It is what it is to him. He wishes it was different, but accepts his lot in life.

“She became my lifeline, my candle in the darkness.”

The story of Nathan is horrific and quite graphic, but in spite of that, I was unable to put it down. I was hooked. This novella was fantastic, and had enough substance to keep my curiosity at a continuous high. I am really looking forward to continuing the journey with the next book in this saga, Luminosity.
