The Rabbit Hutch by Tess Gunty

5.0

4.5 but I’m rounding up. The reason for the 4.5 is because even though Gunty’s witting is creative and clever, there are times when it feels less like prose and more like a warmup exercise from a writing class.

Overall, I was blown away by this book. Life flows through every character and every setting. The author’s deep knowledge of the characters’ quirks and eccentricities brings them to life in a way that is very rare. Such an amazing imagination. Blandine is a intriguing, sometimes sad female protagonist, whose belief in and search for a greater meaning in life will haunt me for awhile.
