Around the World in 80 Trains: A 45,000-Mile Adventure
by Monisha Rajesh
I learned some history, was reminded of Thailand, and enjoyed chapters about Japan and Canada. I also liked the conversations with travellers and the experiences at the borders.
I was disappointed to see no Australia or Africa journeys (I bought the book online so could not view the chapters). Similarly, Europe was grazed over, the return journey less than 20 pages. I’ve taken to reading travel books during covid but for the majority of this book it felt as though the author was dissatisfied with the journeys due to the style of writing and so I felt quite tired at finishing this book. I would’ve liked to have known more about the trains themselves, and a map would’ve been a welcome addition.
