The Music Shop by Rachel Joyce
3.0
WE LOVE VINYL! WELCOME!
3.5 stars. Stumble into a music shop where the owner prescribes you the perfect album, the Saturday boy offers coffee and biscuits and your future lifelong friends are in the back having a listening party and waiting to meet you.
It is more about self-love than a love story between two characters. At one point, it seemed as if they were all going to get their individual storylines but that never really happened. You can tell the author loved Kit (so did I!) as he seemed to be the most developed other than Frank and Ilse. I wish Maud received the same treatment.
The writing kind of lost me about 3/4 of the way through and seemed rushed but the ending redeemed it. Could’ve done without the waitress character.
Last page made me bawl. It’s a story about a misfit community and the journey back to oneself. (And music—always, music.)
